Step back in time with a villa holiday on the historic island of Corfu

Deep down, though we may try to deny it, we all love a little bit of history. It connects us with the past and in many ways maps out the road for the future. Sadly, we rarely appreciate the history we see daily on our door steps, probably because it’s just too familiar. We only truly appreciate history and culture when we travel to somewhere different. Well, if you’re looking to absorb a little local culture and get a taste for the past, then there are fewer better places to visit than the Ionian Island of Corfu. (more…)

The satellite islands of Paxos and Andípaxi (part two)

The essence of any Villa holiday is freedom and the ability to do what you like when you like. Obviously for most people that simply means making the most of the facilities on offer in your villa, whether that’s soaking up the sun and the view, or simply lounging by the pool. If relaxation is what you’re after, then villa holidays don’t get much better than this. But other people are more adventurous and intrepid: they like to get out and about and explore. Now the Ionian Islands are ripe for that. They’re soaked in history that dates back well over two centuries. If you’re one of these adventurers, then you’ll be spoilt for choice about what to do on your Corfu villa holiday. (more…)

The east coast from Benítses to Boukári

Corfu is an island of contrast. There are some areas of outstanding natural beauty, and sadly there are also areas where excessive tourism and traffic has taken its toll. It’s a sad fact of life, but inevitable when cheap package holidays become popular. However, one of the beauties of a Villa holiday in Corfu is that you can, should you so desire, avoid these hot spots and head of to the more remote coves and sandy beaches. However, it can be unfair to judge harshly: one man’s meat is another man’s murder as they say. Some people who rent a holiday villa may actually like such places. (more…)
